“Food, Sex & YOU”
Do couples that eat together, sleep together? Is the idea of eating certain type of foods to enhance your sex life a myth or fact? Maybe the answer lies somewhere in between and there’s a little more to it than what is on the menu.
Stacey: “Food can mean a lot to a lot of people, culturally, spiritually, we can abuse it, we can under eat… over eat, we can emotionally eat, so when I talk about food…I talk about it in a lot of different ways…and how we feel about ourselves after we’ve eaten certain foods, after we’ve over eaten, under eaten, and even control our food.”
Cheryl: “It really comes from understanding what food means to you and your body image and how we present ourselves base on that.”
What matters most in the relation between food and sex, is that you and your partner dine on meals that include foods that you both can enjoy as long as you don’t overeat or drink. Everything is great in moderation and there should be a balance.
Cheryl: “Self body image does play a very active role in how we choose to enter into our relationships and our sexual relationships.”
Eating a healthy daily diet is more important to overall sexual satisfaction than just one meal as an unhealthy consumption can on the long run have negative effects on one’s self esteem and body image.
Cheryl: “A lot of our sexual desire or non desire comes from our self esteem and deep body image and how we feel about ourselves, if you’re over eating, then you start to feel bad.”
It’s not to say that foods like oysters won’t serve as an aphrodisiac. But most importantly, if you enjoy the company of the person that you’re on a date with and being fed oysters, chances are you will end up having a delicious time that may lead to either another date or a sexy night between the sheets depending on where you’re at in your relationship.
Stacey: “If I’m with my partner and he’s dripping chocolate on me and were having a glass of wine …it sounds great, that could be an aphrodisiac…amazing… but if I’m eating it alone and I’m sad, it’s definitely not gonna be the same.”
There isn’t a scientific proof to substantiate the link between food and passionate sex. That doesn’t mean that you and your partner should shy away from “sexy food types” such as: oysters, strawberries or chocolate etc…that can kindle the romance or trigger the desire for sex, especially when you’re feeding each other. That can make all the difference.
Zoltan: “I think that some of these glorified items that are considered aphrodisiacs, they don’t really work…At some point I ate 70 oysters… I functioned the same way as I would have done without eating them …However…there are certain foods that do indeed increase libido, not to contradict myself, but certain food items obviously increase blood flow…consumption should be in moderation…it really comes down to circumstance.”
Stacey: “There are foods that they say are proven to be aphrodisiacs, but If I’m sitting beside someone that I’m not attracted to, I don’t know if it’s gonna speed up my libido.”
You don’t need to be model-thin to have a wonderful sex life, but if you’re uncomfortable with your body image, it can affect your physical self, your libido which will ultimately result in you not being at your best in the bedroom, leaving you emotionally drained and feeling undesirable.
Whatever your body type , let’s agree that exercising in general has a positive effect on how you feel about yourself, increasing your energy level and will subsequently make us feel sexier about ourselves. If we embrace our bodies, become more confident, perhaps the person that we’re in a relationship with will respond to that energy. Confidence itself is an aphrodisiac and that will seduce our partners!
Stacey: “If you’re eating healthy, you feel good, if you’re eating junk all the time, you don’t feel good and eventually that carries down to self esteem and how you feel about your body so if you’re eating well and you’re exercising…you’re gonna feel good…loosened up …but I believe that scent …things that smell good…those things also have a huge aphrodisiac effect.”
If you love someone, you accept them for who they are and where they are at. Although it helps when you’re with a partner that enjoys food as much as you do, conversation is really what pulls you together.
Cheryl: “How does food fit into our relationship world?
Stacey: “Food is pleasure! Without food life isn’t the same…I look forward to my meals, so in relationships…its’ important to enjoy our meals, sit down and have mindful eating… it all comes together.”
If you want to add some spark to your sex life, food can help you set the mood. There’s nothing better than a romantic, home-cooked dinner, with some “R-rated foods” on the menu to help turn up the heat. It’s important to take your time, enjoy the meal and especially the conversation while nourishing your body. Now that sounds like a good combination of “food” for the soul. Food and sex can go hand in hand when in the right company!
Cheryl: “It’s important to have a good conversation…and really having that relationship with each other.”
Take the time to enjoy the flavors of life and each other. Cook together, light the candles, put your phones away and share your day. Savor each moment like a fine wine and toast yourself appreciating the essence of Food, Sex and mostly YOU. Cheers!!!
