Cheryl Besner: Love Triangles
The term “love triangle” has always had negative connotations. It describes a situation where one partner in a couple is having a relationship with someone else. The affair involves only the two participants, leaving the other partner alone.
How often have you heard the words “you can’t find everything in one person”? We have been told since we have been old enough to be in relationships that we have to compromise. So, we set standards of what we need in a relationship and decide if that person can fulfill most of our needs, compromising on the elements that are lacking.
But…
What if you could create the perfect love life by combining the attributes of several people, with the result being you living your life and experiencing ALL the love you desire?
Step into 2015 and into the polyamorous world, and you find people who are living a true LOVE triangle, as everybody involved is actually in love!
There are many misconceptions about polyamorous relationships. People think it’s a free-for-all centering around sex. Not true. It’s all about commitment, honesty, respect, and love. It’s about loving each other so much that you want 100% fulfillment for your beloved within your relationship. It about knowing that whatever you may not be able to provide for your partner, someone else can.
In a polyamorous relationship, the love triangle is called the triad. However, these relationships sometimes include more than three partners. There are no rules, but there is a common foundation, based on full disclosure and total truths.
While this lifestyle may not be for everyone, it’s an interesting concept to learn about, so that we can understand instead of judge. While I consider myself a monogamous person, and choose to live my love life in that fashion, I understand the philosophy that polyamory is based on now that I know more about it.
I was fortunate enough to recently meet and interview a former Montrealer, Natalia Garcia. Natalia is the creator of the reality TV show “Polyamory: Married and Dating” on Showtime and now on Crave.tv. Our conversation really enlightened me on the ins and outs of polyamorous relationships!
Tune in tomorrow night at 10 pm when we explore the world of multiple loves on Solo in the City Radio. Also joining me will be the founder of Montreal’s Alternative Lifestyles Community Centre, as well as two men who live the polyamorous life and LOVE it!
