Solo-Recommended Hot Spots for 50+ Singles

Solo-Recommended Hot Spots for 50+ Singles

At this stage of life, many of us prefer to go out on the town solo and enjoy our own company if the alternative is staying home and eating in front of the television.

However, we don’t have to feel lonely, even if we are alone! Remember:  Getting UP and getting OUT are the necessary first steps to getting SOCIAL – as well as the first steps to finding  The One, as they are not going to come to your home and knock on your door!

The challenge for many 50+ singles is figuring out the right places to go; where we won’t run into our children’s friends, but be surrounded by like-minded individuals who are our contemporaries.

As a born and bred Montrealer who became single at 52, I want to share some of my time-tested SOLO-recommended hot spots and tips on how to mingle…

Leméac : Stop by before 10pm, as their late-night menu tends to attract 20somethings.

Le Pois Penché: Lunch time attracts the business crowd.

Sofia:  The long bar area is amazing!

La Société: Order the seafood tower and offer to share it with someone.

Escondite:  This new Mexican hotspot boasts a fab bar area for dining solo, but also is perfect for a first date. Ask for a back corner table in the dining room when reserving.

Holder:  Great for 5 à 7, as the bar area is huge, and attracts a sophisticated clientèle

XO Hotel Le St-James:  For a romantic date. Ask for a booth – its huge couch lends itself to cuddling.

Vicolo: There are endless corners to socialize in this sumptuous Italian resto-bar.

Taverne on the Square:  Good any night of the week!

L ‘Appartement: Ladies’ night is on Tuesday.

Thursdays:  The tried and true classic on Crescent is always full of regulars and travellers.

Chez Delmo: French seafood with huge bar counter in Old Montreal.

Natrel Milk Bar: Perfect for a coffee date!

Grinder: Thursday night is the place to see and be seen!

Le Richmond: Dinnertime is always hopping, and this Griffintown supper club features not one, but two bar areas.

Toi, Moi et Café: Ideal for that first 45-minute “predate”!

Pandore: Beautiful  rooftop evening destination with breathtaking skyline views and live entertainment.

SuWu:  It’s all about the food! Follow chef Dan Geltner’s weekly date-night recipes on our blog.

Les Enfants Terribles:  Two locations to enjoy – our favourite is the one on rue Bernard in Outremont.

La Champagnerie:  The name says it all… Champagne is always a good idea!

Jatoba: The well-placed bar is right there as you walk in, giving you a prime seat for people-watching!

Renoir Hotel Sofitel: Friday morning from 7 to 9 is the power breakfast spot for downtown businesspeople.

Spanel: Breakfast and lunch features delicious items like crêpes, with special attention paid to the vegan palate. Eclectic crowd.

As you can see, it’s all about knowing where to go and when. Try some of these and let me know if you liked them! You can also share some of your favourite spots to see, be seen, and be part of the scene. Maybe you can help others get social and find their future special someone!
