Fishnets, anyone?

Fishnets, anyone?

What your hosiery says about you.

I was getting dressed the other day and when I opened up my drawer to choose my nylons, it struck me: How I dress often reflects my intention of the day. Right down to my undergarments!

I was amused at how a simple set of nylons could exude a wide range of emotions and be interpreted by myself and others on so many levels.

For example…

Fishnets
Flirty, fun and sexy. When you wear them, people automatically assume you want to play…at least a bit! It screams, ‘look at me.’ A bit of coverage that also conceals the skin is good for all seasons, but not all times of day. Long-lasting and durable; but then again, we don’t wear them frequently. Fun for play.

Tights

They cover us completely, allowing us to show the contours of who we are without revealing our true skin tone. They can also conceal our blemishes if we think that’s needed. They are practical, durable yet can be whimsical if we get creative with colours and pattern details.

Nylons

The most common choice. Sheer or opaque is the difference between how much we want to be revealed and how much we want covered up. We get to show off a bit for of our mood and/or level of confidence with options like control top or the latest addition on designer lace detail simulating a G-string effect.

Stockings

For the more daring, there are the stay-ups. Lace details highlight one’s femininity while also signalling our self-confidence. There is also the option of the garter, which has the same allure of the stay-up but adds that extra sense of security for some. In my opinion, this undergarment adds to the charm. What may be hidden takes a little more time to uncover…

Socks

Cozy, warm and reliable. There are many colours and designs, but ultimately what we look for warmth, durability and distance (like when running).

Most women have nylons older than a three-month relationship and it’s important to remember there will inevitably be a snag in the fabric. Take your time to decide whether to pullout the clear nail polish to stop the tear or if the run has gone too far and it’s time to toss them. Sometimes, we toss out nylons that still have great potential wearability, especially if you can pull off a gothic look.

The fact is, whichever option we start with, all we want to end up at the end of the day is the ability to slip on a nice pair of cozy socks!
